Barefoot on Country text

Barefoot on Country wasn’t something I sat down and planned. It was something I lived.

For years, nature was the only place that made sense to me. When everything inside me felt chaotic, heavy or too loud, I would find myself drawn back to the oceans, the forests and the wide-open spaces.  Walking barefoot on the sand, swimming in freshwater creeks and touching the bark of old trees made my soul quiet.

I have always loved camping, lighting a fire and twirling flames. I've spent hours watching and listening to the birds, bandicoots, wallabies and kangaroos and of course telling all the cows how much I loved them. When the night sky would awaken with stars, the milky way and the galaxies would shine, I felt like I was home.

Before I had the words for somatic and energy healing or nervous system regulation, nature was already doing that for me. She held the parts of me I didn’t know how to hold myself. She softened my edges, steadied my breath, and reminded me that I belonged, long before I believed it.

Some of my deepest healing moments didn’t happen in therapy rooms.
🌿 They happened crying under trees.

🌿 Journalling and watching the ocean waves roll in.

🌿 Sitting on warm rocks in the sunshine.

🌿 Floating in creeks that felt like they were washing old versions of me away.

🌿 They happened when I was Barefoot on Country.

The lands of this Country from the north, south, east and west have witnessed me during some of the most beautiful and hardest chapters of my life. She held me as I shed old versions myself, along with the slow, painful rebuilding of who I am. And every time I returned to the land, she met me with the same message: "You don’t have to do this alone. You are home.”

Barefoot on Country was born from that place in my heart that finally felt safe enough to open again. It came from my own healing, the kind that doesn’t happen in one moment, but in hundreds of gentle ones. The kind that happens when you let nature teach you how to slow down, how to listen, how to breathe again.

As my connection to the land deepened, I began to embody and feel the power of cultural connection. I learned how our First Nation peoples cared for Country and how Country, in return, cared for them. The more I continue to explore Indigenous wisdom and healing practices, the more I resonate with these ancient traditions that have protected the lands and waterways for over 65,000 years.

I created these Barefoot on Country experiences so other women can feel that same grounding and power of nature while deepening their awareness of themselves. They invite you to switch off the to-do lists, quiet the noise and responsibilities, and give yourself full permission to focus entirely on you. They also guide you to reconnect with the oldest living culture on record.

Each experience is nature led and culturally based, depending on the location. We go beyond the social constructs, we have been taught about our indigenous peoples and learn to embrace their powerful traditions and practices of caring for Country.

We don’t need spend a fortune travelling around the world to find healing. This land, this old, wise, powerful land, already holds everything we’re looking for. The magic, the clarity, the grounding, the peace… it’s right here in our backyard. Barefoot on Country is my way of sharing that.

Barefoot on Country offers experiences, not retreats. You’re not escaping life - you’re stepping deeper into it. You move with nature, connect with community, and walk alongside women on similar paths, knowing no two journeys ever look the same. This work teaches you to move through the world with a different energetic vibration — one that people around you can feel the moment you show up.

We offer everything from half-day journeys to long-weekend immersions, giving you experiences for every season of your life and every moment is an invitation. Barefoot on Country stays fully trauma-informed and is supported by certified facilitators with lived experience across Sth East QLD and Northern Rivers NSW.

If you have made it this far in this story, you are feeling the pull – trust it. Country is calling you home, the same way she called me.

Join us as we build a beautiful community of like-minded souls who feel totally encouraged to hug trees without feeling silly, sit in sacred circles. Let's laugh with the Kookaburra as she watches over the forest, and swim in freshwater mountain springs with nothing to do but be fully present with Dadirri — deep listening. This is connecting to Country.
